This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for January 25, 2008:
Wickedness.
Comes from the Anglo-Saxon word... Wyrd...to bend or shape...you get Wiccan / Witch from the same root; benders and shapers of reality...and Wierd and Wicked which are derogatory terms sprayed over those who appear to be a little bit different in your village...they shaped their own lives shorn of gross conformity...and were viewed with suspicion...

Help

yes! i want to bend my reality too and am well-used to being viewed as non-conforming :)
Ha! Always knew nurturing all this wierdness was bound to be proven cooool one day !
cheers to all those wierd & wicked…
X-wickie
Huh?
No wonder I love the words Weird and Wicked!
I must've been a powerful witch in a past life!
Probably got burned at the stake for it too.
Woohoo.
Cheers backatcha Victoria! LOL!
luckily most of us are Wyrd here in Brighton (England) but don't ya just love people who are little bit different…
I do love this: benders and shapers of reality… shape shifting
ah, you trickster, you! …by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes…
Love this! Thanks for posting it.
Also, I've always liked the thing about wick like candle wick. To be wicked is to be a bit of fibre which supports the illumination created by the Presence of the Spirit. To be alive is a holy process of both manifestation and of being consumed. Smokin'!!! :)
Well now i know why we are friends. Keep up your ‘trickster’ ways and you will be weird and wicked too.
gaia is getting wickeder - it took me three times to post this.
Thanx for all your comments folks…of course I have wickedness aplenty and an abundance of characteristics I feel comfortable with and do not want internally….juxtaposing this blog with the other one I posted today, I have felt a real swelling of pride and joy in the connexions I am making here…I feel validated and normalised by you all…I suppose I am rather eccentric in the nonpixellated grid…it's wonderful to know that that is okay with youse guys….thank you…om nama shivaya…Jon xxoo
And there's also The Wyrd, as a proper noun. Sort of an ominous power of the numinous working in Nature. I think it's referred to in Beowulf, or something very old (not sure any longer how old Beowulf [the book!] is), one of those not-quite-English texts I tried to wrap my head around as an undergrad. But I never forgot The Wyrd.
700-1000C.E. hedrric…nice name…yep it's in there but I cannot remember the quotes and cannot be bothered to look them up..see later…Jx PS Thanx Hadrric. jon x
My grandchildren use wicked more often than not - instead of cool.
While a little off the track, but part of the misconception of the reality of life, today……and talking about twisting and bending, I would like to share, (but possibly known by many), the miscontrued beliefs relating to the word, HELL…
The English language must be one of the most mis-used, misunderstood tools we flaunt today.
2400BCE Sheol (Hebrew) - a word meaning ABODE OF THE DEAD, relating to Valley of Gehenna (Hebrew), which means THE GRAVE, where bodies were burned on pyres and garbage was thrown, also to be burned.
While there are other mentions of other places, by the Greeks etc, this one is the most interesting.
In time, the Christian Church evolved the idea of “fire and brimstone” in hell, in relation to this place, where the dead 'went to rest', and obviously where the saying “you will burn in hell “(Sheol - the Valley of Gehenna)……came from.
Translated as 'hell'” but not seen as a place of eternal punishment, it suggests a meaning relating to the power of death……not a formidable place of doom, whereby the spirit burns for eternity in agony etc…..
So, in relation to your question, If you could gain one character trait, what would you pick? I would have to say, without a doubt “TRUTH in REALITY of what it all encompasses”…..in other words, the english language has itself been sorely twisted, bent and miscontrued, over time, taking on different slants, meanings to what was ORIGINALLY the TRUTH OF THE WORD.
At this point, my character trait would have to be in TRUTH, of the OLDE WORLD in all its glory, WHENCE we came and whence I am from and of.
I had to smile at one posters comment about the witch being burned at the stake…..another twist ed word, as we well know that most witches were kindly souls who set about on a mission of healing and well-doing.
Cheers.
Peacemaker…(your icon is 1 of my fave pics!)
LOL…Yah, that poster would be me and yes, I was and STILL am on a mission of healing and well-doing!
Ahhh…but you know how a patriarchal society is and what they do.
=)
How fascinating…isnt it amazing how words have been changed and twisted sooo much…Even my Greek priest is ALWAYS saying during his homilies how mistranslated the Bible is into English, he is from Egypt and fluent in Greek, the New Testament's original language and it is just SHOCKING how huge the differences are when he says what it really is supposed to mean!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a side note pertaing to the word Wicked, that is what all “Mainers” <or Mainiacs, lol- residents of Maine> say when they mean “very” as in, Its WICKED cold out there!!! Also I've heard it used as “cool” or “awesome” too.
I'm new to zaadz/Gaia, but boy I feel right at home already because everyone is so open & speaks their mind- You guys are WICKED wicked, lol!
Blessings of Peace & Love to you from another Weird Soul…Namaste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
…I don't trust anyone that's not a little bit wyrd…
…in Star Wars the Jedi practiced the *Wrding Ways*…
wild, wicked, wierd all wired and wirelessed together in one big net. hurray for (we)blogs. well wishes to all you gais. xo -dawn in colorado nightime.
Now that you put it that way I want to dip into the pot o' wyrd again and slather up! I also appreciate when folks use etymology. I find an unabridged dictionary is one of my bestest spiritual tools. Words get over used and loose some of their sharpness, or maybe a better word needs to be explored to raise a vibration… or maybe finding a new aspect of a word gives new perspectives, Or here is a fun one, Looking at the words that surround the word you have looked at what message came before and after the one I originally intended? I LOVE WYKED WYRDNESS!
I am so so greatful for this thing they cal A.D.D. what a trait, I love it and all of you have made it work for me now instead of it pullig me down, Thank You ALL..Love Ron
